Downstairs Half Bath - Before and After Demo

Image
Besides painting, my first priority is getting the downstairs half bath redone. Both the toilet and the sink leaked when the inspector went through and the pedestal sink was cracked. Here is what it looked like before the demo: I started the demo on my own, and managed to remove the tall cabinet, the door, the medicine cabinet, electrical covers, toilet paper holder, and some of the trim and wall tile/linoleum. I had a hammer, a screw driver, my power tool, and determination to work with. My boyfriend and brother did the next part of the demo on Saturday. They were able to remove the rest of the wall tile, the floor linoleum, the towel bars, and half of the two levels of plywood before they hit the original diagonal 3/4" subfloor. They also removed the sink and toilet and removed a portion of the subfloor around the toilet, because it was rotten. They had crow bars, saws, and much bigger hammers. I was a little jealous. I did get to pull a few nails and screws up, plus clean up so

Paint

First order of business is painting the rooms before I can move in. I let my kiddos choose their own colors. I prefer Benjamin Moore Aura paint in eggshell for walls and semi-gloss for trim. The ceiling paint is Ceiling White by Royal. I love that the Aura dries so very quickly, covers well (though I still do two coats), and is no VOC.  My daughter picked Yellow Highlighter for her room and I chose Beach Plum for my office/craft room. I think the living/dining room color was Celery Ice, which is a very light green.  My son choose Bright Lime, but that turned out way too yellow. So I had to get it retinted at Ace Hardware with an extra ounce of G1 (Green 1). It's still bright, but he wanted Lime Green, and this is much closer to that than the first one. Finally, my bedroom color is Caribbean Coast. I'm supremely lucky to have the help of my family in painting. My dad painted the ceiling trim and taped off the wood. My mom and brother painted the ceilings.  Costs for painting so

Welcome

Hi all, I'm Anna and welcome to my latest venture: a blog about my house and my journey to transform it into a home for the next twelve or more years. It needs some pretty serious TLC, but I've got some pretty serious visions for it too. Happy to have you along on the journey.
